Each night before I go to sleep, I make a list of 5 things that made me happy throughout the day. This is a sample of my list.

Chances are, you’re not going to be alone forever.

Start spending more time with you. Laugh at your own jokes. Luxuriate in solitary silence. Walk. Read. Pamper yourself. Be as filthy and disgusting as you please. Learn the comfort of your own embrace. It’s a cliché but it’s true—you will love better once you’ve fallen in love with you. Sleep sprawled on the bed. Snore. When you wake up make eggs and bacon and eat them in bed on your own. Find things—big and small—that you love doing and do them everyday.

Focus on your job. Find a hobby. Do whatever the hell you want. Because when that day comes—the secret day you hold onto in the hidden recesses of your guts—you will have to compromise. You will have to think of someone else whenever you make a decision. You will have to share your bacon, and maybe they wont like it crispy besides, and you’ll have to adapt. You will have to sleep wedged between someone’s limbs. It wont be better and it wont be worse; it will be different, and you’ll have to learn to love it too.

In less than 1 month in Nashville I have: made some incredible friends, explored the little shops in every district, tried beer & apricot and goat cheese & cherry flavored ice creams, danced in my cowboy boots at a country concert, joined a mega-church with possibly the best church band in the entire world, met a cute boy in tevas at a coffeeshop, befriended the 2 homeless people who I see EVERYWHERE, bought my first romper, learned to cook asparagus, enjoyed every second of my internship (except when I am playing with a kid and they start to pee on the floor or slap me in the face), and had so many other experiences that constantly remind me how lucky I am to have this summer on my own in Nashville.

I decided to expand my horizons by attending my first hipster concert last night with one of my intern friends. I tried to blend in by wearing black pants but I don’t think my disguise worked. Also, a drunk old man hipster dressed in a policeman uniform came up behind me and pretended to hump me and it was scary.

Quote

And after the storm,
I run and run as the rains come
And I look up, I look up,
on my knees and out of luck,
I look up.

Night has always pushed up day
You must know life to see decay
But I won’t rot, I won’t rot
Not this mind and not this heart,
I won’t rot.

And I took you by the hand
And we stood tall,
And remembered our own land,
What we lived for.

And there will come a time, you’ll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

(blurry picture from my first 5k with my dad, this past Saturday morning.. I improved my time by 3 minutes and almost simultaneously vommed/collapsed at the finish line. Thanks Dad)
This weekend, Jules and Dan roadtripped to Wake Forest to cook Easter lunch for 12 people who couldn’t be with their families today.
We cooked, and cooked, and cooked. Stephanie and I played scrabble on a blanket on the floor. And I got to celebrate Easter with so many people I love.
And what’s even better? My third favorite holiday is tomorrow. yeeeeehawwwww
